Horizon’s Kevin Conlin Named Company’s Executive VP and COO

Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (Horizon BCBSNJ) Chairman and CEO Robert A. Marino today announced the appointment of Kevin P. Conlin as the company’s executive vice president and chief operating officer effective April 1, 2016.  Conlin joined Horizon BCBSNJ in 2012 as executive vice president, Healthcare Management.  In his new role, he will be responsible for directing and managing all of Horizon BCBSNJ’s business activities.

“Kevin has been the driving force behind Horizon’s efforts to improve the quality and the value of health care for our 3.8 million members,” said Chairman and CEO Robert A. Marino. “In his new position, Kevin will accelerate Horizon’s goal to change the way health care is delivered and financed in New Jersey by integrating this mission into all of the company’s business functions,” Marino added.

Prior to joining Horizon BCBSNJ, Conlin served in several executive positions with hospitals and physician practice management companies. Conlin came to Horizon BCBSNJ immediately after serving as executive vice president of coventry healthcare where he headed the company’s medical management, national contracting and provider relations. He also was president and CEO of Via Christi Health, a large Kansas-based integrated health system of 8,000 employees.

“Kevin’s past experience, positive relationships with providers in New Jersey, and in-depth health care experience will enable him to drive operational excellence throughout Horizon’s organization,” Marino said.

Conlin is a Rutgers University graduate, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences. He holds a Master’s Degree in Health Administration from Duke University.
