Ground is Broken for State-Of-The-Art Cancer Center in Morris County

Governor Chris Christie today joined healthcare leaders to break ground on a state-of-the-art cancer center in Florham Park. Summit Medical Group’s new MD Anderson Cancer Center is expected to open in 2018, and is an extension of the MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper University Hospital in Camden.

“Today’s groundbreaking marks another milestone in our ongoing quest to bring world-class cancer care to people all across New Jersey,” Governor Christie said. “This new development also brings more quality private-sector jobs, attracting and retaining the best graduates and professionals for our state’s workforce in this critical field. I am delighted that New Jersey’s relationship with MD Anderson continues to grow, as we add our second major cancer center in this collaboration.”

“We couldn’t be more excited to break ground on what promises to be a world class cancer center, providing patient care that is fully integrated with the multidisciplinary care Summit Medical Group already provides to so many residents of New Jersey,” said Summit Medical Group Chairman and CEO, Dr. Jeffrey Le Benger. “We thank Governor Christie and Mayor Mark Taylor for joining us to celebrate this milestone.”

MD Anderson first brought its top-ranked cancer care to New Jersey in partnership with Cooper University Health Care in Camden, in October 2013. This extension of the MD Anderson and Cooper partnership to Summit Medical Group will create a 130,000-square-foot building at The Green at Florham Park, 140 Park Avenue, for North Jersey residents to have more convenient access to top-quality cancer treatment. The new patient-centered cancer facility will feature the latest advances in cancer care including medical oncology, infusion, diagnostic imaging, and radiation oncology.

“This project will play a vital role in boosting Florham Park’s economy and in assuring our residents that they need not cross the bridge to access world-class cancer treatment and therapies,” said Florham Park Mayor Taylor. “I am honored to welcome the Summit Medical Group MD Anderson family to my city.”
