Plainfield Breaks Ground on Its Largest New Mixed-use Project in 40 Years

Ground is broken for a $30-million housing and economic development project in Plainfield. The Muse at Grant Avenue Station is the largest mixed-use new construction project in the city in over 40 years. The multi-phase development will consist of the construction of a new state-of-the-art facility for ABC Supply Company Inc., a major wholesale supplier of building products, followed by the construction of a 5-story multi-family building comprised of 90 residential units.

“This is a very significant project for the City of Plainfield as we continue our renaissance. This high-impact development will provide employment opportunities, millions in economic activity, housing, and serve as a magnet for more high-quality development. ABC Supply Company is a valued and respected employer in our community, and I am glad they chose to expand and invest more in our great city,” explained Plainfield Mayor Adrian O. Mapp.

“We are very pleased to be working with the City of Plainfield and ABC Supply Company. This public private partnership has been rewarding for our company, but I expect it will be even more rewarding for the community,” stated Greg Rogerson, principal of J.G. Petrucci Company, Inc.

The first phase of the development is the construction of ABC Supply Company’s new home, an innovative 44,000 square foot office and commercial facility that will allow the company to expand its operations. Half of ABC Supply Company’s employees are residents of Plainfield. Additionally, city residents will receive preference for the new employment opportunities that the expansion will create.  The full site development will also generate approximately 200 jobs during the 2-3 year construction phase along with opportunities for apprenticeship positions for Plainfield youth.

“We are extremely proud to be a part of this important economic development project for the City of Plainfield, and we are grateful to the Mayor and Council for their leadership and ongoing support. Our goal is to build projects that create meaningful opportunities for residents and deliver real economic value to communities. This project keeps that promise as well as revitalizes an area in need,” added Patrick Terborg, co-developer and co-founder of TD + Partners.

The residential portion of The Muse at Grant Avenue Station will feature 90 distinctively designed units, a resident fitness center, state-of-the-art security controls, onsite parking, and a community room.
