The First National Bank of Elmer Hosts 21 Bank Executives From Japan

Early this month The First National Bank of Elmer hosted 21 community bank executives from Tokyo, Japan.

Brian W. Jones, President/CEO of The First National Bank of Elmer and his executive management team conducted a roundtable forum discussing all aspects of community banking and how such integrates into the current banking environment.

“We were very honored to be selected to receive such a distinguished group of community bankers. It was a great opportunity to reach out and share ideas, cultures and learn from each other”. One of the drivers of our discussion revolved around The First National Bank of Elmer’s strategic plan to grow and remain an independent, community oriented financial institution serving our local markets”, Jones said.

Joining Jones from The First National Bank of Elmer were Karl Towns, SVP/Chief Operating Officer/Chief Risk Officer, Robert Bender, SVP/Chief Lending Officer, Joanna Penman, SVP/Chief Banking Officer along with Lisa McBride, Director, Member Relations-Chapters and Community Banks from The Risk Management Association.

The group of bankers visited Philadelphia, New Jersey and New York to learn about best banking practices that would be applicable to Japan’s community banks, coordinated by Takeshi Aoki, President of the Institute of Global Research.

Each bank that attended were members of the Shinkin Bank. This banking system is made up of cooperative regional financial institutions and serves small and medium businesses and local residents. The Shinkin bank system was formed in the early 1950’s and currently has 265 member banks with 7,400 locations across Japan.
