Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Toms River Completes Renovation

Hospital now includes 64 private rooms, plans to offer onsite dialysis treatment

Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Toms River recently completed a four year construction project to modernize the hospital and add new services and more private rooms. The 98-bed acute care inpatient rehabilitation hospital now includes 64 private rooms with private restrooms and 17 semi-private rooms. Additionally, Encompass Health of Toms River is pending license to provide onsite dialysis treatment and plans to provide the service in the near future.

“When our license is approved, Encompass Health will proudly be the only acute care rehabilitation hospital in the area offering inpatient dialysis, allowing patients to receive uninterrupted therapy and dialysis treatment in one location,” said Patty Ostaszewski, CEO of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Toms River. “We have been serving this community for nearly 30 years, and we continue to see an increasing need for acute care rehabilitation. We want to make sure patients in our local community continue to have access to the highest level of services and receive the right level of care at the right time in their recovery.”

The four-phase reconstruction approach allowed the hospital to remain fully functional while renovating the facility. The hospital also includes a daily living suite which simulates a home-like environment including a bed, bathroom, kitchen and laundry room, where patients can practice returning to normal daily activities as they continue to regain their strength and fine motor skills. The hospital includes three bariatric rooms specialized for patients who have experienced a fall or are at risk of falling with equipment to help prevent patient and staff injuries and allow patients to return home as independently as possible.

“Extensive research studies confirm that some diagnoses, such as strokes and hip fractures, recover more quickly, safely and effectively in an acute rehabilitation setting, as opposed to nursing homes or other rehabilitation environments,” said Dr. Padma Adusumilli, medical director at Encompass Health of Toms River. “Where you or your loved one receives acute care rehabilitation is a choice, and we want to help educate the community about their options to help patients and families make the most informed decision.”

Encompass Health of Toms River offers a variety of services to patients needing rehabilitation, including amputees, burns, hip fractures and other orthopedic conditions, joint replacement, stroke, cardiac conditions, spinal cord injury, and neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s and Multiple Sclerosis. The multidisciplinary rehabilitation team includes physicians, registered nurses, case managers, and dieticians, who combine the latest technologies and individualized treatment plans to help patients progress toward independence. Patients receive at least three hours of comprehensive therapy for five days each week, including physical, occupational and speech therapy, and around-the-clock nursing care. The hospital has received The Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval for disease-specific certification in a number of rehabilitation programs, including stroke, cardiac, wound care, brain injury, pulmonary and advanced inpatient diabetes.

Encompass Health of Toms River plans to host an open house of the newly renovated hospital during National Rehabilitation Week in September 2021. All are welcome to attend. For more information on the event, email [email protected].
