Elizabethtown Gas Customers Benefit From $17.5 Million Rate Credit Related to Merger with Southern Company

Union-based Elizabethtown Gas, a subsidiary of Southern Company Gas (formerly known as AGL Resources Inc.), will provide a significant rate credit to its more than 283,000 customers as a result of the recent merger of Southern Company Gas with Southern Company.

Beginning this month, Elizabethtown Gas will provide $17.5 million in refunds to all customers with active accounts as of June 30, 2016. The one-time credit, which equates to approximately $42 for a residential customer, will be applied to August bills and is based on an allocation of rate classes approved by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU).

“We are pleased to pass along these refunds to our customers,” said Brian MacLean, president of Elizabethtown Gas. “This credit reinforces our longstanding commitment to providing exceptional customer service and delivering the value our customers have come to expect from us.”

Southern Company completed its merger transaction with Elizabethtown Gas’ parent company on July 1, 2016, following unanimous regulatory approval from the NJBPU. The newly merged organization is one of America’s leading electric and gas utility companies and the second-largest utility company in the U.S. in terms of customer base.
