Dennis Pullin Assumes Role of Virtua President and CEO

Dennis W. Pullin, FACHE, has assumed the role of president and CEO of Virtua, a non-profit healthcare system based in Marlton offering a full continuum of primary, preventative, wellness, acute and long-term care.

“It is an indescribable privilege to join Virtua, an organization recognized as the first choice for health and wellness in South Jersey,” said Pullin.  “I look forward to building upon the already solid foundation to embark on the next era of healthcare.  I believe we are on the threshold of what I know is an exceptionally promising future for Virtua.”

Pullin reiterated his unwavering loyalty to the Virtua mission of delivering first-rate, safe care and an outstanding experience to those patients and communities Virtua serves.  “That is something that will always be at the heart of everything we do,” he added.

Shortly after joining Virtua, Pullin met with the 400-member Virtua Leadership Group, who enthusiastically welcomed Pullin with standing ovations and commitments of support.  Pullin has begun visits to each Virtua facility to meet many of Virtua’s 9,000 employees and invite them on the journey of continued success.

Prior to joining Virtua in September 2017, Pullin served as president of MedStar Harbor Hospital and senior vice president of MedStar Health.

Pullin joined MedStar Harbor from MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC, where he spent three years as senior vice president and chief operating officer. Prior to that, he held positions as vice president of operations and business development at St. Luke’s Episcopal Health System in Houston, TX; vice president of acquisitions and development at Symbion Healthcare, Inc.; executive director of the Baylor Sports Medicine Institute at Baylor College of Medicine; and chief operating officer at Hopestar Medical Management Group.

Pullin, a San Antonio native, received his bachelor’s degree at Texas Lutheran University and earned a Master of Science degree at Texas A&M University.

Pullin participates on a number of community boards and advisory committees, and in a variety of professional organizations, including the American Heart Association, and Healthcare for the Homeless. He is a member of the American Hospital Association’s Governance Council for Metropolitan Hospitals, the board of the College of Health Professions, the Towson University Board and is a Regent to the American College of Healthcare Executives. He is a past member of the Maryland Hospital Association’s Council on Legislative and Regulatory Policy, as well as Maryland Hospital Association’s Prime Group Purchasing Organization.

He served as an Adjunct Professor at Texas Lutheran University and Towson University, and has presented and published a wide variety of papers and articles. Pullin is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and a past Fellow in the American College of Sports Medicine. He is a recent Hall of Fame Inductee, Edgewood Independent School District, San Antonio, TX.
