Colliers Inks 143,000-Square-Foot Industrial Lease for Article in Elizabeth

Colliers International Group Inc. has brokered a 143,000-square-foot industrial lease at 201 Bay Ave. in Elizabeth on behalf of e-commerce furniture company Article.

In an international effort, Colliers’ Mike Markey and Jon Tesser, based in the global commercial real estate services provider’s Princeton, N.J., office, and Andrew Lord, based in Vancouver, British Columbia, represented Article in negotiating the long-term transaction. Ernie Christoph and Charlie Reese served as in-house representatives for the landlord, Hartz Mountain Industries.

Founded in 2013 and headquartered in Vancouver, Article delivers modern designer furniture direct to the consumer at affordable prices. It works with manufacturers around the world to deliver a curated selection of furniture direct to customers across North America. The firm will relocate its New Jersey distribution center to the Elizabeth property from a 22,000-square-foot space in Lincoln Park, N.J.

“Article is a young, rapidly expanding company,” Markey noted. “The site search focused on identifying a property that would accommodate its continued growth while gaining proximity to the port – a key to controlling in-bound freight cost and facilitating fast delivery to customers.

“This property’s location – immediately adjacent to the Port Newark-Elizabeth Marine Terminal – is ideal for inbound shipments and fast delivery to their customers,” he added. “Additionally, our client appreciated the Hartz Mountain Industries’ responsiveness and flexibility. Ernie Christoph and Charlie Reese were instrumental in helping to get this transaction done.”
