Cole Schotz P.C. is continuing the expansion of its intellectual property department with the addition of Special Counsel Marcella M. Bodner in New Jersey. Bodner has nearly 20 years of experience formulating both offensive and defensive intellectual property strategies that create and maximize value through patent portfolio development, licensing, and enforcement.
“Marcella is a valuable addition to the firm’s IP team,” said David Kohane, co-chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property Department. “Her broad science and technology background and experience in prosecuting patent applications inside and outside the United States will enhance our ability to assist clients with developing effective intellectual property strategies.”
Bodner’s experience includes the preparation and global prosecution of patent applications, the patentability assessment of new inventions, patent landscape studies, appeal of rejections before the United States Patent and Trademark Appeals Board, defense of third-party oppositions at the European Patent Office, and rendering opinions regarding infringement and freedom-to-operate for products and processes.
She applies her patent prosecution and technical expertise to enforcing and defending patent rights in U.S. federal courts and in post grant proceedings at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, including inter partes reviews, covered business method reviews, post-grant reviews and ex parte reexaminations.
Ms. Bodner is admitted to the state bars of New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania, as well as the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. She earned her J.D. from Rutgers Law School and her B.S. in chemical engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology.
In March, Cole Schotz welcomed William Stroever, partner and co-chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property department, to its New Jersey office.
