Byrne Plaza Awarded a 2018 Downtown NJ Excellence Award

Downtown Wildwood’s Byrne Plaza was recently awarded the 2018 Downtown New Jersey Excellence Award in the Built Projects category.

Each year, Downtown New Jersey recognizes New Jersey’s best downtown projects and programs completed within the last two years. Winning submissions are considered models worthy of emulation. Byrne Plaza was recognized as a best Built Project, based on the project’s excellence in placemaking.

The new 60,000-square-foot Byrne Plaza, located in the heart of Downtown Wildwood at Pacific and Oak Avenues, features outdoor events and attractions with an event schedule that includes a festive atmosphere for the whole family.

Designed by renowned architect Richard Stokes, Byrne Plaza features iconic and decorative Wildwoods cement beach balls, vast greenery and a covered amphitheater; along with ample space for numerous events and festivals to be held throughout the year. Some events include the Downtown Wildwood Farmer’s Market, free Movie Nights on the Plaza, the Downtown Marketplace, and free concerts and festivals.

Byrne Plaza’s prime location amongst local businesses, including a burgeoning dining district, is another key factor in its contribution to an evolving Downtown Wildwood. Byrne Plaza has transformed the Downtown into a viable attraction for visiors to the Wildwoods.

The development of Byrne Plaza was made possible by a joint effort between the Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority (GWTIDA), the Wildwood Business Improvement District (WBID), the County of Cape May County, the Cape May County Open Space Board, the Byrne Foundation for the Wildwoods, Crest Savings Bank, and the City of Wildwood.
