Blumenthal Named President & CEO of Lion Brand Yarn

Adam Blumenthal has been named president & CEO of Lion Brand Yarn Company. Based in Carlstadt, the company is a fifth-generation, family-owned business and one of the leading knitting and craft yarn distributors in the United States.

Blumenthal succeeds Chris Mills, who has stepped down from the position he has held since mid-2020.

“I am incredibly proud to be the 5th generation Blumenthal to carry the legacy of Lion Brand Yarn as we mark the 145th anniversary of this globally renowned, family-owned business,” said Blumenthal. “This is a pivotal year for the brand, and I am excited to lead the company into the future.”

Blumenthal has served in several progressive roles at the company. He was instrumental in launching Lionbrand.com and growing Lion Brand Yarn’s eCommerce business. He has effectively managed relationships with the company’s supplier community and customers. Most recently, as vice president of brand/product development & digital, working closely with Mills, Blumenthal led a robust pipeline of new products, brand initiatives, and digital expansion, while also playing a leading administrative and strategy development role.

Mills will remain with the company in the capacity of executive vice president, strategic advisor, where he will work closely with Blumenthal, supporting the transition and the further development and execution of Lion Brand Yarn’s long-term growth strategy. Mills will continue to oversee the company’s sales, marketing and product development. Both Blumenthal and Mills will remain on Lion Brand Yarn’s Board of Directors.

Lion Brand yarns are sold online and at craft chains, discount chains, and independent shops across the country. Via its website, the company ships to virtually every country in the world. More than 80 different types of yarn can be purchased on LionBrand.com, in addition to tools and accessories.
