The collaboration between Berkeley College and the Guizhou University of Finance and Economics (GUFE) in China continued this summer, expanding into the area of faculty instruction. Berkeley College faculty have been instructing faculty from China on American teaching and learning methods. In the fall, several Berkeley College faculty members will travel to China to serve as visiting faculty at GUFE. With the faculty members from GUFE who visited Berkeley, the Berkeley visiting faculty will co-teach business courses in English to GUFE-Berkeley College Collaborative Programs students. The students enrolled in the GUFE-Berkeley College Collaborative Programs in China will have the opportunity to complete their degree programs at Berkeley College in the United States.
This summer also marks the second year in which a group of GUFE students are participating in the Summer Program at Berkeley College, studying Business Communication and refining their English skills at Berkeley College in White Plains, NY.
“Berkeley College recognizes the value of sharing American teaching practices from a global perspective,” said Michael J. Smith, President of Berkeley College. “The collaboration between Berkeley College and GUFE allows students to learn in the classroom and apply what they learn in their future careers.”
Shaohong Cai, President of GUFE, met with the group of students from China who are enrolled in the Summer Program at Berkeley College, faculty and delegates from both institutions, and Berkeley College student host ambassadors during a recent visit – his first – to the United States.
“These life-changing experiences are great for you and your future,” President Cai told the students. “You are the key to cultivating competition as you gain business knowledge. We hope you become self-learners, not only in technology, but also get to know how you learn. That is important in the international market.”
