Atlantic City Convention Center to Serve as Vaccination Site

CRDA Board also approves Showboat Resort Hotel Entertainment Retail District

At a special board meeting today, the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA) board of directors approved an agreement for the Atlantic City Convention Center to serve as a “mega” site for the administration of COVID-19 vaccinations beginning in January, 2021.

“The CRDA is pleased to support New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, along with the New Jersey Department of Health in utilizing our facilities in support of the import.ant work in administering these vital services,” said CRDA Board Chairman Robert Mulcahy.

The Atlantic City Convention Center was one of six New Jersey sites chosen to administer the COVID-19 vaccinations. Other sites include the Meadowlands Complex in Bergen County, Rockaway Townsquare Mall in Morris County, New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center in Middlesex County, Moorestown Mall in Burlington County and Rowan College of South Jersey in Gloucester County.

“After serving as a Field Medical Station during the pandemic earlier this year, the Convention Center will again be supporting the State’s efforts in providing a convenient vaccination site,” said CRDA Executive Director Matt Doherty.

The AC Convention Center site is scheduled to open by mid-January and will run through June with three 30-day extensions available if needed. Public transportation via NJ Transit is available, as well as ample parking accommodations.

In other business today, final project approval was granted for the Showboat Resort Hotel Entertainment Retail District (ERD). The Showboat Resort Hotel ERD components include the construction of a new, state-of-the-art waterpark, a new family entertainment center, and a complete renovation of the existing Showboat Hotel Tower.

“This project is expected to produce hundreds of new jobs in retail, sales and hospitality which will directly benefit the area’s unemployment and the local economy,” said CRDA Board Chairman Robert Mulcahy.

“The CRDA believes the waterpark and family entertainment offerings included in the Showboat Resort Hotel ERD will become an integral part of the Tourism District and attract more local and regional visitors to the destination,” said CRDA Executive Director Matt Doherty.
