NJM’s Flynn Speaks at William Paterson University

NJM Insurance Group President and CEO Bernie Flynn recently regaled William Paterson University students with career-related advice that included, in part, how Flynn himself rose from being a student to ultimately heading NJM. Overall, Flynn said, “If you know what you are doing in the insurance world, you will always have a job.” He added, “[The insurance industry] may not be sexy or exciting … but, when Superstorm Sandy hit [for example], you are critical to helping people. It is a career worthy of consideration.”

Flynn explored NJM’s qualities as a top-rated insurance company and additionally provided a brief history of automobile insurance reform in New Jersey. Headquartered in West Trenton, NJM Insurance Group operates exclusively for the benefit of its policyholders, and offers: personal and commercial automobile insurance, homeowners insurance, workers compensation insurance and personal excess liability “umbrella” insurance.

Choose NJ Launches Tri-State Business Attraction Campaign

To draw attention to the state’s new Grow NJ tax incentives, Choose New Jersey, Inc., launches a new business attraction advertising campaign timed to coincide with a series of missions to New York City, Philadelphia and Hartford to meet with corporate decision makers and site selectors.

“The Grow NJ incentives are game changers for New Jersey,” says Tracye McDaniel, president and CEO of Choose New Jersey, which spearheads marketing, business attraction and lead generation for the state. “We’re pulling out all the stops to make sure businesses know that these tax breaks – along with New Jersey’s lower operating costs and talented workforce – can have a serious impact on their company’s bottom line.”

A total of 15 projects have been awarded Grow NJ Assistance program incentives totaling $239.3 million since the Economic Opportunity Act of 2013 was signed into law last September.

Health Republic Insurance of NJ Moves

Health Republic Insurance of New Jersey commits to move into 12,000 square feet at The Berger Organization’s 570 Broad in Newark. The non-profit Consumer Operated and Oriented Plan (CO-OP), established through the Affordable Care Act, will take occupancy this spring.

Harlan Hollander, of Cushman & Wakefield’s East Rutherford office, orchestrated the long-term lease on behalf of the tenant. Brendan Berger, vice president of The Berger Organization, represented his company, which serves as operating partner for the 200,000-square-foot, 15-story office tower.

“My client wanted to set its foundation and grow in Newark, which offers outstanding mass transit access and the quality of life that a 24/7-urban hub offers employees,” Hollander says. “570 Broad was a great choice. The location and value are right. Additionally, Health Republic Insurance required a fast move-in timeframe. The Berger Organization was highly responsive.”

Healthcare Insurers form Additional ACOs

Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (Horizon BCBSNJ) and Edison-based JFK Medical Center, through its JFK ACO, announce the launch of a collaborative Accountable Care Organization (ACO) to more than 5,000 Horizon BCBSNJ members.

Under the ACO agreement, Horizon BCBSNJ will provide care coordination payments to the ACO to take on additional accountability for improving the health and patient experience, as well as controlling the cost of care for its Horizon BCBSNJ patients.

Additionally, Aetna and Atlantic Accountable Care Organization (Atlantic ACO), a partner of Atlantic Health System, announce a new accountable care agreement in which Atlantic ACO will deliver a better patient experience for more than 28,000 Aetna members in Morris, Sussex, Union, Somerset, Warren and Passaic counties.
