The NJ AI Hub: Powering Innovation, Growth, and Opportunity in the AI Era

Artificial intelligence is transforming every sector of the global economy, from life sciences and advanced manufacturing to finance and logistics.

New Jersey’s deep talent pool, world-class research institutions, and strong industry base position us to lead in this moment. The New Jersey AI Hub (NJ AI Hub) – launched in mid-2025 – was created to ensure that the state not only keeps pace, but helps define the future of AI-driven innovation.

The NJ AI Hub was created by a first-of-its-kind partnership between Princeton University, the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA), Microsoft, and CoreWeave. Its mission is to mobilize the state’s assets, catalyze cross-sector collaboration, and build the infrastructure needed to unlock AI’s economic and societal potential.

At its core, the Hub aims to serve as a “center of gravity” for AI activity in the state, connecting researchers, entrepreneurs, corporations, and policymakers to accelerate the full lifecycle of innovation, from discovery to deployment and scale.

The Hub’s facility, located in the heart of the Route 1 innovation corridor, provides coworking space and convening capacity, creating a shared environment where startups, researchers, and corporate partners can collaborate in real time. By pairing workspace with programming and community-building, the Hub enables the kind of day-to-day interaction that drives faster innovation and stronger business outcomes.

In its first year, the Hub has already delivered meaningful results. It became one of only two global sites with access to Microsoft Discovery, a cutting-edge AI platform that can help accelerate breakthroughs in drug development, climate science, and advanced materials, firmly positioning New Jersey at the forefront of AI-enabled research.

The Hub is also building clear pathways to commercialization for startups and entrepreneurs. Through a partnership with Plug and Play, it operates a startup accelerator supporting companies from early-stage through growth, offering mentorship, pilot opportunities, and connections to capital. Complementing this effort is a $20 million investment led by NJEDA and CoreWeave. The aim is to help AI startups throughout New Jersey gain access to the computing and engineering expertise they need to apply their ideas in high-impact domains like life sciences, energy and others. Together, these efforts are strengthening the state’s innovation pipeline and attracting investment and talent.

Equally important is preparing New Jersey’s workforce for the AI era. The Hub is working with community colleges, universities, and employers to expand access to AI training and career pathways. Initiatives include the state’s first AI apprenticeship program and the Faculty Futures AI Studio, which brings almost a dozen higher education institutions together to co-develop curricula and governance frameworks. These efforts will help workers and businesses of all sizes compete in an AI-enabled economy.

The Hub is also committed to advancing responsible and secure AI deployment, integrating ethical practices, and addressing emerging risks. As AI reshapes industries and work, the NJ AI Hub is helping to ensure that New Jersey remains competitive – driving innovation, supporting entrepreneurs, and expanding opportunity.
