Newton is a small town rich in history, with many historical buildings such as the Newton Fire Museum, Newton Theatre and the Sussex County Court House. Newman Drake, the creator of Devil Dogs and Yodels cakes, and the founder of Drake’s Cakes, was born in Newton in 1860.
He donated 10.82 acres of land to the Town of Newton. This land is now known as Memory Park.
Drake was appointed the first president of the Newton Recreation Board.
