Newman Drake, the creator of Devil Dogs and Yodels cakes, and the founder of Drake’s Cakes, was born in Newton in 1860.
He donated 10.82 acres of land to the Town of Newton. This land is now known as Memory Park.
Drake was appointed the first president of the Newton Recreation Board.
