Made in NJ Day Shows Manufacturing’s Impact
Manufacturing news
On May 18, 2015
From everyday items like hanging flower baskets and kitchen cabinets to hi-tech specialty products for the aerospace and other industries, manufacturers make a wide variety of products in New Jersey, and on March 26, they put their products on display for the whole state.
Twenty-five manufacturers displayed their New Jersey-manufactured goods in the halls of the State House as part of the New Jersey Business & Industry Association’s (NJBIA) Made in New Jersey Day. They helped educate legislators, policymakers and members of the media on what manufacturing means to New Jersey, how many people they employ, and the challenges they face.
Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto and legislators from both parties stopped by to check out the displays. NJBIA also distributed “Sampler Bags” containing products manufactured by 17 New Jersey companies.
“Made in NJ Day was a great networking event,” said Kelly Svihla of Zodiac Aero Evacuation Systems, one of the exhibitors. “We were able to connect with key contacts and learn about state programs and international marketing opportunities.”
“Every day, manufacturers go up against competitors from across the United States and around the globe and still come out on top,” NJBIA President Michele Siekerka said. “Made in New Jersey Day is our chance to let them tell their stories.”
New Jersey manufacturers employ more than 240,000 workers who make an average of more than $90,000 per year. Manufacturers generated $45 billion in economic output in 2013 and exported $32 billion in goods.
