On Tuesday, November 7, New Jersey residents will go to the polls to elect a new governor. With that in mind, it is a New Jersey Business magazine tradition to interview the Republican and Democratic gubernatorial candidates to discover their views and initiatives on a number of business issues. The goal of the following Q&As is to educate our 108,000 business readers so they can make informed decisions when they go to the polls and vote for who they feel is the right person to grow the New Jersey economy and improve the quality of life for all citizens.
The two office seekers – Republican candidate Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno and Democratic candidate Ambassador Phil Murphy – care deeply for the people of New Jersey, though their approaches to enhancing the state’s economy differ. On the following pages, they present their thoughts on: the state’s fiscal condition, public employee pensions, job creation and business incentives, property taxes, school funding, higher education, infrastructure spending, healthcare, the environment and more.
