Lufthansa Honors 25 Years of Service to Newark

This year marks the 25th anniversary that Lufthansa has been flying between Germany and New Jersey. In 1990, Lufthansa introduced direct flights to three European destinations— Frankfurt, Hamburg and Cologne— from what is now Newark Liberty International Airport. The airline’s entry into the Newark market was significant in transforming the gateway into a major international hub.

“For the past 25 years, Lufthansa has offered a dense network and great connectivity to our passengers traveling into and out of Newark. With their latest flight offering, the airlines of the Lufthansa Group serve 260 destinations in 100 countries,” said Juergen Siebenrock, vice president of the Americas, Lufthansa German Airlines. “Furthermore, with the regularly scheduled 747-8 service that Lufthansa recently installed on the Newark – Frankfurt route, our New Jersey/New York-area customers can now enjoy Lufthansa’s newest cabin products with the latest interior designs in all travel classes, as well as Lufthansa’s top-of-the-line ground experience with our own branded premium lounges at Newark International Liberty Airport,” he continued.

At Newark Liberty, Lufthansa passengers enjoy the comforts of the airline’s exclusive Senator and Business Lounges within Terminal B, as well as service via the airline’s flagship “Queen of the Skies” – the Boeing 747-8, which began regularly scheduled service in February 2015. Equipped with both the new First Class and Business Class cabins, the new 747-8 provides passengers with a chance to enjoy the exclusive Lufthansa premium travel experience featuring the newest cabin design and interior elements. Passengers also have the opportunity to enjoy the new Premium Economy Class offering up to 50 percent more personal space and enhanced onboard services compared to regular Economy Class.

Year-round, Lufthansa offers daily flights from Newark to Frankfurt, Munich and Dusseldorf, connecting industries that are critical to both regions, among them automotive, fashion, pharmaceutical and telecommunications. Some of Lufthansa’s most popular destinations from Newark include Europe, India and Israel. Currently, Lufthansa serves 21 North American gateways, with service from Tampa beginning in the fall 2015.
