Father’s Day: Dads Want to Spend More Time with Their Kids Outdoors

Just in time for Father’s Day, Dover-based Casio America, Inc. announces the results of its recent ‘Smart Outdoor Device Survey for Fathers’ which polled fathers in the United States, Japan and Germany on technology devices and spending time with family outdoors. The survey found that when it comes to time spent with their children for outdoor activities, fathers around the world do not spend as much time as they would like. In particular, fathers in the US spend approximately seven hours a week enjoying outdoor activities with their children. The survey also indicated that dads would like to increase their time spent with their children by 23 percent up to approximately nine hours. Purpose built products, such as Casio’s WSD-F10 Smart Outdoor Watch are helping fathers maximize this time.

Smart Devices and the Outdoors
Dads are more connected than ever before and they want to remain connected when they head outside with their families. According to Casio’s survey:

  • More than three out of four fathers own multiple (two or more) technology devices.
  • Virtually every father (89 percent) surveyed takes their smartphone with them during outdoor activities and more than one-third of those dads surveyed will also bring their smartwatch.
  • More than half of fathers indicated that when considering a smartwatch, it must have apps for outdoor activities. Fathers also look at features including battery life (85 percent), durability (84 percent), as well as waterproofness (65 percent).

In addition, dads not only want to remain connected during their adventures, but they also want tools that will help them navigate the great outdoors. For example, Casio’s survey found that more than one-quarter of fathers cited that a sudden change in the weather as the top issue they faced on outdoor activities. Moreover, 40 percent indicate that they couldn’t get a signal from their existing devices or dropped it in water and 19 percent lost direction on their trek. Casio’s Smart Outdoor Watch is packed with features and tools designed specifically to address these outdoor challenges and ensure that enthusiasts can enjoy what they love doing in the great outdoors.

“Dads increasingly have more responsibilities inside and outside of the home, so the time they get to spend with their families is extremely valuable,” said David Johnson, Vice President of Casio’s Timepiece Division. “The integration of smart devices into daily life is creating some advantages for them and Casio’s WSD-F10 is an ideal tool for dads to use while cycling, fishing or hiking with their children this summer and beyond.”

Survey Methodology
This survey was conducted online within the United States, Japan and Germany between April 25-27, 2016 among 900 fathers (300 fathers in each country) aged 20-59 who participate in outdoor activities with their children such as trekking, hiking, camping, fishing, hunting and more.
