Holtec International’s to Open Technology Campus in Camden

Acting Governor Kim Guadagno today joined local elected officials at the Camden Waterfront to celebrate the ground breaking ceremony for Holtec International’s new Technology Campus.

“This development on the Waterfront marks a strong new day for Camden.  I personally have been working on this project for five years.  It is incredibly satisfying to be here to see the largest single investment ever in Camden start to come to life. We will continue working toward this City’s renewal, with projects like Holtec’s Technology Campus,” said Acting Governor Guadagno.  “Today, we celebrate not only hundreds of new and retained jobs, but also Holtec’s commitment to the Camden community and its continued presence in New Jersey’s innovation ecosystem.”

Holtec’s state-of-the-art Technology Campus in Camden will contain a manufacturing complex, a reactor test loop facility, and a corporate engineering building.  Among other projects, the facility will undertake the development of the SMR-160 nuclear reactor.  Holtec will invest $260 million into this facility, representing the largest single investment of private capital in Camden’s history.

“We are acutely aware of our social responsibility: we will work with the State of New Jersey and the City of Camden to leverage our plant to serve as a training academy to help young men and women, especially unemployed Camden residents and veterans, to acquire skills that yield well-paying jobs,” said Dr. Kris Singh, Holtec’s founder, president and CEO.  “Our center also serves to signal the renaissance of manufacturing in the United States powered by private enterprise.”

Launched in 1986, Holtec International, Inc. is a manufacturer and a turn-key supplier of equipment and systems for nuclear, solar, geothermal, and fossil fuel power generation sectors of the energy industry in many countries throughout the world.  Holtec is the largest manufacturer of storage and transport systems for spent nuclear fuel in North America and is also an industry leader in the design and supply of critical heat exchange equipment such as steam generators, surface condensers, air-cooled condensers, and feed-water heaters to the global power industry.

Strategically located in the center of the Eastern Seaboard, New Jersey is one of the nation’s strongest hubs for manufacturing and offers access to local and global financial markets, a highly trained workforce and state-of-the-art transportation, energy and communications infrastructures.  In 2014, manufacturing contributed nearly $40 billion to the state’s $504.6 billion Gross Domestic Product.  Manufacturers also help drive New Jersey’s economy, with $32.3 billion in manufactured goods exports in 2014.
