HackensackUMC Mountainside Announces Major Capital Improvements and Upgrades

HackensackUMC Mountainside, a community hospital and major healthcare provider serving suburban Essex and neighboring Passaic County, is embarking on major capital improvements.  The diverse array of renovation and expansion projects slated to begin in 2014-15 includes development of an on-campus Medical Office Building that will house physician offices; enhancements to the Women’s Services and Emergency Departments; addition of improved patient safety technology and equipment; implementation of next generation electronic records technology; and new building décor and aesthetics in some common areas and patient rooms.

Capital expenditures for all of the projects have been approved by the hospital’s two ownership partners, LHP Hospital Group, Inc. and the Hackensack University Health Network, and are scheduled to be presented to the hospital’s Joint Venture Board this week.

“This exciting development will have a sweeping impact on the quality and availability of healthcare for our community,” said John Fromhold, Chief Executive Officer of HackensackUMC Mountainside.  “With top-notch, on-campus office space and state-of-the-art upgrades and enhancements throughout the facility, we will be able to attract highly regarded physicians to join our world-class medical staff in taking convenient, local access to specialized care to the next level in our community.”

“Our goal is to achieve an integrated standard of care at all of our network affiliates that’s the best in their respective service areas and also among the best in the state and the entire nation,” said Robert C. Garrett, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Hackensack University Health Network. “We’re pleased to support the talented physicians and healthcare team at HackensackUMC Mountainside by providing greater access to the most current, comprehensive medical and information technology resources and more functional workspaces.”

“LHP’s unique joint venture model was born out of a vision to provide community hospitals with the operating capital needed to thrive in an increasingly complex and costly healthcare industry through prudent, strategic fiscal management. This major investment in HackensackUMC Mountainside reflects the success of that model and our commitment to the hospital’s long-term viability,” said John F. Holland, Chief Executive Officer of LHP Hospital Group, Inc.

At HackensackUMC Mountainside, patients have immediate access to innovative and effective treatment alternatives at specialized centers within the hospital that focus on imaging, women’s health, cancer care, surgery, obesity, stroke and chronic kidney disease. The 365-bed community hospital also serves as a learning center via its nursing school and residency programs. HackensackUMC Mountainside is designated as a Primary Stroke Center by the NJ State Department of Health and Senior Services and is one of only a few community hospitals licensed by the State to perform emergency angioplasty.
