Greater Trenton Announces New Historic Location

Greater Trenton (GT), the 501c-3 economic development organization formed last fall to advance economic revitalization efforts in the state’s capital city, today announced an agreement to share office space within The Old Masonic Temple, the current site of the Trenton Visitors Center located at 102 Barack Street. The Old Masonic Temple is owned by the Masons and is operated as the Visitor Center by the Trenton Downtown Association.

“We are thankful to the Masons and The Trenton Downtown Association (TDA) for working with us to share this wonderful location as the headquarters for Greater Trenton,” said George Sowa, Greater Trenton’s Founding Chief Executive Officer. “GT was created to work collaboratively with the private sector, community organizations, the city, as well as state and local leaders, and it is in this spirit of collaboration that we’ve achieved this great result. I cannot think of a better environment or location than this historic building in downtown Trenton to work on developing and advancing revitalization efforts for this great city.

Built in 1793, at the intersection of Front and Willow streets, the Old Masonic Temple is across the street from the Old Barracks and steps away from the New Jersey State House.  In 1915, the Old Masonic Temple was moved a half block south to 102 Barrack Street when a new building was constructed for the Trenton Lodge.  In addition to being the Visitor Center, the building has also served as a Masonic Lodge, a school, an upholsterer shop, and a museum.

Sowa also announced the launch of the organization’s new website: greatertrenton.org.  The domain name was previously registered to One Simple Wish; a Ewing based non-profit organization dedicated to bringing joy and opportunity to America’s foster children and at risk youth.  “I would like to recognize and thank One Simple Wish for agreeing to allow Greater Trenton to acquire this domain name which is a perfect fit, “said Sowa.
