Gov. Christie Nominates New Chairman of the Port Authority of NY and NJ

Governor Chris Chistie today recommended John Degnan to replace David Samson as chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Degnan, a resident of Chester, served as New Jersey attorney general under former Governor Brendan Bryne from 1978 to 1981. He resigned as attorney general and went to work for the Morristown-based law firm of Shanley & Fisher. He then joined Warren-based Chubb Corp., in 1990 as senior vice president and general counsel. He was named president of the company in 1996, vice chairman and chief administrative officer in 2002 and vice chairman and chief operating officer in 2008, before retiring in 2010.

His nomination requires state Senate confirmation.
