Elizabethtown Gas Recognized for Commitment to Economic Growth and Development

Elizabethtown Gas, a subsidiary of Southern Company Gas, was recognized for its commitment to economic growth and development in New Jersey. Last year, approximately 70 percent of the company’s $119 million overall spend was directed to businesses operating in the state. During the last three years the company also has quadrupled its procurement opportunities with women- and minority-owned businesses, and service-disabled veteran-owned businesses.

The Economic Impact Award was presented to Elizabethtown Gas by the Supplier Diversity Development Council, an organization comprised of companies regulated by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities.

Elizabethtown Gas continues to invest in natural gas infrastructure to improve the safety and reliability of its operations. In fact, infrastructure modernization improvements have generated significant opportunities to do business with the community.

“We are proud of our efforts to advance, develop and create procurement opportunities for businesses in the state,” said Brian MacLean, president of Elizabethtown Gas. “Our efforts are helping to meet the state’s goal of stimulating the local economies and enhancing the safety and reliability of our natural gas system.”

Elizabethtown Gas is one of seven natural gas distribution companies of Southern Company Gas, a wholly owned subsidiary of Southern Company (NYSE: SO). Elizabethtown Gas provides natural gas delivery service to approximately 283,000 residential, business and industrial natural gas customers in New Jersey. In operation since 1855, the company serves parts of Union, Middlesex, Sussex, Warren, Hunterdon, Morris and Mercer counties.
