Acting Governor Guadagno Commends Nurses, Cites Growing Health Care Needs

Congratulating the New Jersey League for Nursing (NJLN) on 100 years of service, Acting Governor Kim Guadagno this morning addressed the NJLN’s Annual Convention in Atlantic City.

“The health care field is constantly reinventing itself, and the nursing profession is often on the front lines,” Acting Governor Guadagno said. “Nearly two million New Jersey residents will be over 65 in the next decade, and we need a robust pipeline of nurses — and nursing educators — to manage this growing healthcare demand. I am committed to working with you to make sure that we take good care of our nurses so that they can take the best care of us.”

NJLN advances nursing education through continuing educational programs for nursing faculty and practicing nurses, and has awarded more than $200,000 in nursing scholarships to those interested in pursuing a career in professional nursing or continuing their nursing education.

“We were so pleased to have Acting Governor Guadagno speak at our Opening Ceremonies today of the New Jersey League for Nursing Convention,” said Dr. Patricia Castaldi, president of NJLN.  “Our nurses felt honored that she would make time in her busy schedule to join us as we celebrate our 100th anniversary and look ahead to the future of nursing in New Jersey.”

The demand for nursing jobs in the State is expected to create an additional 20,000 jobs for nurses during the next five years, according to data from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

The New Jersey League for Nursing (NJLN) is the only organization in New Jersey in which registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, allied healthcare providers, those providing employment for health care providers, nursing educators and consumers network and foster leadership while promoting the positive image of nursing.  The annual three-day convention brings together more than 500 participants for continuing education sessions and exhibits of state-of-the-art medical products and technology.
