Military Installation Growth and Development Task Force Launched

Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno announces the launch of the New Jersey Military Installation Growth and Development Task Force. Created through Executive Orders Nos. 134 and 154, the Task Force will undertake the responsibility of forging a blueprint for the long-term growth and viability of the state’s military bases and US Coast Guard installations.

“It is hard to overstate the importance of this issue to New Jersey’s future prosperity and overall quality of life,” the Lt. Governor said. “Enhancing the strength and sustainability of our military installations is not only a matter of protecting tens of thousands of jobs and billions in economic activity, but preserving a tremendous source of statewide pride as well. When the work of the Task Force is complete, I am confident that it will offer a plan that will make New Jersey’s military bases even stronger engines of economic growth and better positioned to meet the unique needs of a 21st century United States military.”

Analysis by Rutgers University for the New Jersey Council on Armed Forces and Veterans’ Affairs found that – taken together – bases generate employment for more than 73,000 people and support $9.6 billion in total economic activity.

The Task Force will seek to:

  • Organize a Broad-Based Coalition Supportive of New Jersey’s Military Bases.
  • Assist in the Economic Fortification of the State’s Military Bases.
  • Ensure Alignment of Base Missions with Department of Defense Priorities.
